Hanging Lamp n°1

Although most design lovers know Muller Van Severen for their furniture, the Belgian design duo actually began their story with the creation of their Hanging Lamps. The project originated out of necessity: working in their old home, they realized a ceiling socket was missing above the table, so they designed a lamp that could hang from the wall. The first prototypes were shown at their very first solo exhibition in 2011 at Galerie Valerie Traan. In the gallery, Fien and Hannes filled the space with designs that appeared as if someone had taken crayons and drawn in the air. This playful, naive aesthetic materialized into real objects, giving the lamps a sense of lightness and color. Like all Muller Van Severen furniture, the Hanging Lamps add a sober yet colorful line to interiors, ending with a lightbulb and a perfectly neutral lampshade originally found at a flea market.
